Baseball Downs Polk County Rival To Punch Their Ticket To Championship Game

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The bats picked up right where they left off in tonight's rematch against Webber International University.  Southeastern's hitters combined for 11 hits, leading the team to a 8-2 victory in the semifinal game.

Gerald Ceballos and Luis Diaz contributed immensely combining for six of the 11 Fire hits. Diaz, the senior shortstop, also added another triple to his school record.  Derek Martin, the native of Odessa, Florida was also in the offensive mix launching a two-run towering drive over the left-field wall in the bottom of the third to give the Fire a 3-1 lead.

The centerfielder, Marcus Guzman, stayed red hot with a pair of hits of his own.

Due to the stellar offense over the course of the first three games, Southeastern leads the tournament with a .314 batting average.

From strike one Jamal Wilson set the tone for the Fire dealing eight strong innings while only surrendering two earned runs which came early in the third.  The Jackson State transfer challenged the second best hitting team in the Sun Conference Tournament with his high octane fastball and found great success striking out eight.

Going along with the top batting average, Southeastern is home to the top three batting averages individually.  Diaz leads the whole field with .571 average, while Guzman and Ceballos possess .545 and .538 averages, respectively.

Tomorrow's championship matchup between Keiser and Southeastern will feature the best hitting team against the best pitching team.  As a staff, the Keiser pitchers hold opposing hitters to an average at the Mendoza Line.

The championship is slated for 11:00 a.m. with a possible "If" game scheduled for 3:00 p.m. only if Keiser wins game one.
