LAKELAND, Fla. - In game one of the Sun Conference series to solidify a first place team, the Fire were not able to find an answer for the Seahawk's offense falling by a score of 7-3.
The Seahawk's Kyle Keatts executed pitches all contest long dealing eight innings while striking out seven in the process. Through five innings of work Keatts only faced two batters over the minimum.
Southeastern fell victim to the longball in the early going. After a one out walk, Brad Myott hit a two run homer over the centerfield wall to give Keiser an early 2-0 lead. Keivan Berges followed up with a home run of his own in the third to extend the Keiser lead.
Southeastern cracked the Keatts' puzzle in the sixth when
Angel Garced hit a towering homer over the left field wall. The Fire proceeded to tack on two more runs after back-to-back RBI doubles by
Mike D'Acunti and
Derek Martin in the bottom half of the ninth. Unfortunately, it would not be enough to catch the Seahawks.
The bullpen did what it could to keep tame the Seahawk offense.
Brandon Goff came in relief and pitched 3.2 innings only surrendering three hits, one run, and struck out four.
Both Martin and Garced finished the ball game with two hits of their own. Martin, the USF transfer, amassed a .750 on base percentage in the contest as well.
Luis Diaz also extended his hitting streak to five games.
The Fire will be back in action for a twinbill against Keiser tomorrow, Saturday, April 15th starting at 12:00 p.m.
