AVE MARIA, Fla. – On a day where the Fire bats hit a collective .405 at the plate (34-84), the No. 4 Southeastern University baseball team took both games of an afternoon doubleheader versus the Ave Maria University Gyrenes, capping off a sweep of the weekend series. SEU won game one by a score of 15-4 before earning the 8-2 victory in the second contest.
The Fire feasted on a nine run offensive explosion in the top of the third. SEU did its damage on eight hits in 14 at bats and were aided by an Ave Maria error. This was just the second time this season that SEU has scored nine or more runs in an inning.

Marcus Guzman got the scoring started in the frame after singling, stealing consecutive bases, and then crossing home on a wild pitch.

Mike D'Acunti carried on the wrecking crew for the Fire with a two-run opposite field shot over the left field fence. D'Acunti went deep again on with a lead off solo homer in the top of the fifth. The Dix Hills, N.Y. native was dialed in at the plate this series, hitting a cumulative .500 (8-16) at the plate with eight runs batted in and six runs scored.
Senior righty
Jamal Wilson improved to 6-0 on the season after the game one start, tossing five innings and striking out six. The SEU bullpen held AMU bats to .250 at the plate (4-16) in the final four frames of the first contest.
The Fire received much needed production from the bottom third of the lineup in game two, with the seven, eight, and nine hole hitters combining to hit .500 (6-12) with four RBI and three runs scored.

De'John Suber put SEU up 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Suber then picked up an RBI on the groundout in the top of the eighth, bringing Guzman home.
The Fire tacked on three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth via RBI singles from Guzman,
Luke Maher, and Suber.
Senior right handed pitcher
Nate Harmon bounced back from a tough last outing versus Warner, hurling 6.1 shutout innings and striking out six. He improved to 6-2 on the season with the win.
The Fire will look to stay hot in Sun Conference action as they host Florida Memorial University at Ted A. Broer Stadium. Game one of the weekend series is slated for Friday at 6:00 p.m.
