Box Score 2 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—After falling behind in both games, Southeastern was able to battle back to take two conference road games from Keiser University by scores of 4-2 and 10-2, respectively.
The Fire put the ball in play early in game one, but were unable to get solid contact on the ball through five innings. Defensive execution by Keiser allowed the Seahawks to take a 2-0 lead after three innings. This effort was led by Keiser pitcher Allison Williams, who had a perfect game through three innings and did not surrender a hit until there was one out in the fifth inning.
Fueled by a few key hits and a couple of Keiser errors, the Fire made their push in the sixth inning, which started when
Heather Faulk reached base safely.
Cheyenne Blaha then doubled into the left-center field gap to score Faulk and cut the deficit to one run. After the senior from Auburndale came around to tie the game on the Seahawks' second error of the inning,
Laney Haynes sent a ball over the left field fence to give the Fire their first lead of the day. Haynes finished the first game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
The Fire would not relinquish their advantage for the remainder of the contest. Lindsie Scholwinki, who came on in relief of
Stef Guercio, shut down the Seahawks. Scholwinski struck out four out of the five batters she faced, securing the 4-2 win in game one of the doubleheader.
Southeastern started game two in the same way they ended game one. Blaha, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the competition, drove a pitch over the wall to give the Fire an early 1-0 lead.
This time, Southeastern was unable to remain ahead, as an error extended the second inning and allowed the Seahawks to push across two runs on two hits with two outs.
Keiser then secured their advantage through the fourth inning by turning double plays in three consecutive innings after letting Fire runners reach base.
Just like in game one, the Fire stormed back- this time in the fifth inning- with an offensive explosion. With two outs, the Fire put up six runs thanks to production from the middle of the lineup. Faulk, Haynes, and
Kiah Ferrell batted in two runs each, as Southeastern added six hits in the half inning to take a 7-2 lead.
In the sixth inning,
Cat Maldonado added two runs on a bomb to left field before
Taylor Stoltz scored on a throwing error to put the game away 10-2. Maldonado came in to close out the game as she pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
The Fire will return home for a doubleheader against Central Christian College on Tuesday at 2:30pm.
