Baseball Jumps Out Early on Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla.—The Fire baseball team used an early offensive outburst to take the first game of a Sun Conference weekend series against Warner.

Southeastern scored eight runs in the first four innings to come away with an 8-0 victory.

Kade Wagner and Mike Ruppenthal combined to stymie Warner hitters, combining for a two-hit shutout. Wagner improved to 5-1, striking out seven over six innings of work. Ruppenthal earned his second save of the year, throwing three scoreless frames with four strikeouts.

The Fire (27-2) picked up two runs in the second, when Marcus Guzman stole third, then came home on a throwing error. Luis Diaz then singled to score another run.

Two more scored in the third on a Mike D'Acunti single to make it 4-0.

Danny Acevedo led off a four-run fourth with a double, and the bases were loaded after Angel Garced was hit by a pitch and Diaz picked up his second hit of the game. Acevedo scored on a walk to Jadan Garcia. A sacrifice fly by Alex Stephens scored Garced, and a single by Gerald Ceballos picked up Diaz.

A sacrifice fly by D'Acunti brought in Garcia to give the Fire an 8-0 lead.

Stephens finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ceballos also registered three hits and an RBI.

The Fire return to Lake Wales Saturday for a doubleheader to wrap up the series.
