LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern softball team will face Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in three home games this Saturday.
Southeastern is coming off of an undefeated weekend of play, during which they faced four teams in the springbreaksoftball.com NAIA Weekend Tournament. The Fire, who are 7-1 on the year, recorded shutout wins against Indiana Tech (7-0) and Cumberland University (8-0), while handling Point University and Middle Georgia State University by scores of 5-3 and 8-2, respectively.
Three Fire players lead the Sun Conference in statistical categories so far this season. Offensively,
Taylor Stoltz has contributed by collecting ten hits and batting a conference-leading .625 for the year. She also leads the Fire in stolen bases with six. The combination of
Lindsie Scholwinski and
Stef Guercio has been a deadly pitching threat for Southeastern. Scholwinski has recorded four wins this season, which is good enough to lead the Sun Conference and rank her 10
th in the nation in wins. Meanwhile, Guercio has picked up the other three wins for the Fire, while maintaining a conference-high strikeout average (9.45).
Calumet, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, participated in the Martin Methodist Meltdown Softball Classic to kick off their season. The Crimson Wave put up fights against #15 Davenport and RV Georgetown College, but fell short in both games by scores of 6-2 and 5-3. Calumet was able to come out of the opening weekend with a 1-0 shutout win against Lawrence Technical University.
Courtney Spirek leads the way for the Crimson Wave. The designated hitter from Brookfield, Ill. starred in the game against Lawrence Tech, going 2-3 and driving in the only run of the contest. While playing against the 15
th ranked Davenport Panthers, Spirek batted .667, drove in one run, and came around to score the other of the two runs for the Crimson Wave.
First pitch against Calumet College of St. Joseph is scheduled for 11am. Games will also take place at 1pm and 3pm.
