LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern women's basketball team finished a perfect regular season run by routing Florida Memorial University by a score of 98-53 to improve to 24-0 on the year.
The Fire began the game with an 18-4 run, during which every Southeastern starter scored a basket.
Sarah Green kept the Lions from attacking the basket throughout the stretch, as two of her six rejections came during the initial run.
SEU continued their dominant first half by outscoring the Lions 33-5 in the second quarter. On three consecutive trips down the floor toward the end of the half,
Cassidy Block assisted a three point field goal by fellow senior
Bailey Hooker. The Fire took a 57-19 advantage into the locker room thanks to 67.7 percent shooting from the field and an unprecedented 64.7 percent (11-17) from downtown. Hooker ended the night with a game-high 19 points (5-9 3pt) and four rebounds, while Block contributed eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
Southeastern used ten second half points by Green to jump out to a 46 point advantage (70-24), their largest lead of the night, with 3:52 remaining in the third quarter. Green finished the game with 12 points.
Returning seniors
Alyssa Ramos and
Christin Strawbridge also played key roles in the final act of the regular season. Ramos added nine points, while shooting 75 percent from behind the arc and recording a game-high seven assists. Strawbridge tallied 16 points and added three helpers.
Victoria Jones led the Lions, who shot 33.3 percent from the field, in scoring. Jones scored 17 points and Ashley Henry added 13 points along with four boards for Florida Memorial.
The Fire will be back in action for the Sun Conference tournament, which will be played in the Furnace next weekend.
