Men’s Basketball Awaits A Pair of Sun Conference Matchups

LAKELAND, Fla. - A successful 2-0 road trip, which included a last second shot and a convincing win over the 12th ranked team in the nation, has spirits high in the Fire's locker room.  This week, the Fire will clash against Sun Conference foes both on the road and at home.

THE OPENING TIP
  • Coming off of their lone road loss, the Fire have bounced back nicely capturing wins in their last four contests.
  • Drawing contact allowed the Fire to capitalize on opportunities at the foul line.  During their win against 12th ranked Robert Morris, the Fire converted 30 of their 34 foul shots.  Overall, the Fire shot 80% from the charity stripe this past weekend. 
  • Ryan Atkins was one of those men that took advantage of his trips to the line.  From the foul line alone, Atkins scored 26 points in the span of two games.  The senior, ended the weekend with an 89% free-throw percentage.  
  • During this four game span, CJ Reese has been a staple in the Fire's starting five.  The transfer from Lee University, is averaging north of 16 points per contest while shooting 56% from the floor.  
  • Grant Bryant, the Fire's glass cleaner, currently leads the team in rebounds with 46.  Accompanied by his efforts, the Fire rank 11th in all of NAIA Division II basketball in total rebound defense (31.00)
  • Southeastern posses the innate ability to go on the run at point during a game.  Coupled with fantastic defense, the Fire rank eighth in all of NAIA DII basketball in scoring margin (18.7).  
  • November 9, 2001 marks the first meeting between Southeastern and Johnson & Wales.  
  • Although close, the Fire lead the all-time series between the Wildcats 15-10.
  • Johnson & Wales is coming off a tightly contested 67-65 loss against Edward Waters College. 
  • The Wildcats' Isa Brandon is currently averaging a double-double for the season.  The native of England averages just north of 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.  Impressively, Brandon ranks second in all of NAIA DII basketball in offensive rebounds per game (4.13).  
  • Complementing Brandon, is perimeter threat in the form of Nick Preradovic.  The 6-0 guard is shooting 41% from beyond the arc.  
  •  Last season's Sun Conference runner-up, Keiser University, is off to a promising start in 2017-18.  The Seahawks began the season winning four straight contests, but recently fell to Florida National 68-60.  
  • Defense is a focal point for the team led by Dante Calabria in his first season as head coach.  Keiser ranks first in the NAIA in four defensive categories which include, blocks per game (5.4), defensive rebounds per game (36.4), 3-Pt FG Pct defense (.234), and field goal percentage defense (.341).  
  • Deion McClenton plays a significant part in every facet of the game for the Seahawks.  The native of Columbus, Georgia leads the Sun Conference in blocks (16) and rebounds (66).  McClenton averages a double-double with 18 points and 13.2 rebounds per game.
