Box Score KINGSPORT, Tenn.—For the second day in a row, the Fire women's basketball team scored 100 points.
For the ninth straight game, the Fire won.
A balanced scoring effort, led by senior Ana Richter's double-double helped Southeastern defeat No. 13 IU East 101-72 in its final game at the NAIA Division II Showcase.
The fourth-ranked Fire got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Richter, who was one assist away from a triple-double. It was the sixth-consecutive 20+ point performance from Richter.
Early on, the play of Marlena Schmidt was key, scoring seven points in the first quarter to help the Fire lead 22-20 after 10 minutes.
Schmidt finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, and three assists before fouling out.
In the second quarter, the Fire put together an 11-0 run that turned a three-point deficit into a 35-27 advantage with 3:17 left in the half. The Red Wolves (7-2) went 0-for-6 from the field during that span. At the half, the Fire led 41-32.
The third quarter proved to be the difference as SEU scored 32 points, holding IUE to 16, with half of those points at the free throw line, as the Fire led 73-48 at the end of the period.
It was free throw shooting that kept IU around, making 21 charity tosses, getting 33 attempts as a result of 34 SEU fouls. Three players reached the five-foul limit for the Fire.
Ana's younger sister, Sarah Beth added 14 points, going six-of-six from the field. Jaycee Coe drilled three of SEU's eight 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and six assists. Emma Karamovic also hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Maja Michalska and Halee Printz each had 10 with Printz adding seven assists.
The Fire return to Sun Conference play on Thursday against Johnson and Wales in North Miami.
