Men’s Basketball Handles #12 Robert Morris to Finish 2-0 at The Show

Box Score KINGSPORT, Tenn. - After a thrilling victory in the final seconds of yesterday's game, the Fire downed #12 Robert Morris in convincing fashion 90-67 to end a successful road trip.

Contrary to the low scoring affair on Saturday, the Fire's high powered offense came alive from the start.  Jeremy Oppenheimer drained a three on the Fire's first possession, and the team never looked back.

Robert Morris was forced to call an early timeout in an attempt to counteract the Fire's potent offense.  During the ensuing minutes, the two teams exchanged defensive stops on both ends of the floor.

With 9:42 remaining in the first half, the Fire began a 15-0 run that eventually moved the score to 33-16.  The Fire's play on both ends of the hardwood held the Eagles scoreless for five minutes of play.

The Eagles were able to close the scoring gap toward the end of the half.  Heading into the locker room, the Fire were ahead 39-31.

Similar to how the game commenced, consecutive passes from the elbow to the perimeter freed up space at the top of the key for the reigning Sun Conference Freshman of the Year.  Oppenheimer, the native of Zephrhills, Fla., knocked down the open three to increase the Fire lead to 11.

Ultimately, the depth of the Fire reigned supreme in the final game of the show.  The revolving door that is the Fire's bench allows head coach R-Jay Barsh the ability to strategically put players in positions that exploit opposing defenses.  The same theme was on display this morning as Ismael Celestin, Harrison Hebert, and Josiah Barsh all played instrumental parts in defeating the twelfth ranked team in the nation.

After an intense weekend of basketball, the men will have a few days off until their next matchup on November 30th when they take on Johnson & Wales.
