Fire football will get a rare opportunity in college football Saturday afternoon.

Southeastern will be looking to avenge its lone loss of the season in the first round of the NAIA Football Championship Series at Lindsey Wilson.

It's a game the Fire would have loved to have back—four turnovers, 12 penalties led to a 43-30 loss in Columbia.

However, that game has served as a turning point in helping the Fire win its third conference title. Since that day in September, the Fire have just three turnovers in their last five games, and are a +12 in the giveaway/takeaway ratio. Additionally, the Fire have put at least 49 points on the board in each of those games, to outscore their opponents an average of 60.4 – 13.6.

Quarterback Jonathan Pearce has completed 71% of his passes for 921 yards, 10 touchdowns, and no interceptions since the prior LWC meeting.

On defense, the Fire are fresh off their first shutout of the season, and are ninth in the NAIA in scoring at 18.4 points per game, and 10th in yardage at 304.3 per contest.

In the first meeting, Blake Ingleton rushed for 168 yards and two scores for LWC, and returned a kick 99 yards for a touchdown. Additionally, Dylan Beasley completed 13 passes for 192 yards and a pair of scores.

The Bluegrass Division Offensive Player of the Year, Beasley passed for 2,384 yards, 31 touchdowns, with just three interceptions.

On defense, Trent Mueller was named the division's defensive player of the year, recording 102 tackles. He is the first player in program history to win the honor.

The winner will advance to next week's NAIA FCS Quarterfinal Round.
