Men’s Basketball Unable to Eclipse Yellow Jackets

Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. - In a hostile environment on the campus of Allen University, the Fire fought hard, but ultimately fell to the Yellow Jackets on their Homecoming Night.  The Fire had an opportunity late in the contest, bringing the game within one possession, however they were unable to generate the necessary points, falling 102-99.  

Allen University set the tone in the opening minutes of the contest rattling off an 18-9 run.  Although the Fire were down, they knew they could still operate effectively in a difficult environment.  

The Fire strung together a few quality possessions by moving the basketball.  Of the Fire's 34 baskets, 31 were converted by way of assist.  Isaac Barsh had a quality night for the Fire shooting 72% from the floor while contributing 16 points of his own.  I. Barsh also crashed the boards, collecting eight rebounds.  

At the end of twenty minutes the Fire found themselves trailing 49-43 at halftime.  As they have done so the early part of the season, the Fire rallied in the second half outscoring the Yellow Jackets 56-53.  With one minute to play in the game, Josiah Barsh converted a timely basket to make the contest a one score affair. 

 The Fire were forced to foul and had one last chance with six ticks left on the clock.  As time expired, the Fire's three-point shot hit off the back of the rim and did not fall, securing a victory for the Yellow Jackets.  

For the third time this season, Ryan Atkins collected double-digit points for the Fire.  Atkins, the senior guard, was 2-3 from beyond the arc, aiding in the Fire's 45% shooting percentage from three-point land.  

The Fire will be back in action on Thursday, November 16th when they take on Webber International University.
