Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In what was a hard fought effort on a gusty day in West Palm Beach, the No. 11 Southeastern University women's soccer team fell to the No. 8 Keiser University Seahawks 2-1 for their first loss of the season. The Fire held the Seahawks to 10 shot attempts, their lowest total of the season.
Southeastern was able to generate more opportunities than Keiser in the first half, with sophomore forward
Uchenna Kanu rocketing off all three of the Fire's shot attempts in the half compared two shots taken by the Seahawks.
Deadlocked in an intense battle, SEU and KU remained scoreless at the half.
The Seahawks broke the silence in the second half with a goal by defending Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week Amanda Blixt in the 59
th minute.
However, just 1:24 later the Fire responded with a strike of their own. Sophomore defender
Konya Plummer had her shot deflected right into the possession of Kanu.
The Abia, Nigeria native made an acrobatic volley to sneak the ball into the back of the net for her 15
th goal of the season and to tie the game 1-1. Kanu has now recorded a point in 20 of the 21 games in her collegiate career.
SEU continued to attack, rattling off back-to-back shots on frame by freshman forward
Aisha Solorzano and Kanu.
However, it was Keiser that notched the go ahead goal in the 76
th minute.
Senior goalkeeper
Sydni Brookhouser made a pair of saves in the final 10 minutes to prevent the Seahawks from growing their lead. The Fire were only able to register one shot during the span.
Southeastern looks to respond to adversity with a home matchup versus Florida Memorial slated next. The Fire welcome the Lions to the SEU Soccer Field on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
