Â
Two of the past three meetings have decided two of the three Sun Conference football championships.
Â
In 2014, it was the veteran Warriors that came away with a 28-21 win at Legion Field to earn the program's first conference title. The first-year Fire were out-rushed 361-73, had a fumble inside the Webber 5-yard line, and were held on downs at the 1-yard line in the second half.
Â
Last season, the Fire returned to the scene and flipped the script, out-rushing Webber 330-137 in a 24-0 win to claim the conference title for the second year in a row.
Â
Southeastern enters the matchup with the upper hand in the Mid-South Conference's Sun Division, having a 2-0 record in division play, with every other team having at least one loss.
Â
The Fire set program records last week, achieving 43 first downs, and running 99 total plays. Six different players registered a rushing attempt, and the backfield stable of
Jarrell Reynolds,
Kamario Bell, and
Tyrell Williams all finished with two touchdowns each.
Â
SEU currently ranks second in the NAIA in total yards per game at 573.3 and rushing per game at 358.3.
Â
It'll be strength-on-strength when the Fire offense is on the field; Webber International ranks fourth in the nation in defense at 282 yards per game, and is 12
th against the run, holding opponents to an average of 114.2 yards per game on the ground. The Warriors have yet to allow a 100-yard rusher in a game this season.
Â
Leading the Webber defense is Dequan Harvin, who's totaled 10 tackles for loss, a pair of sacks, an interception, and 22 solo tackles. Dreakkar Wilson has chipped in six tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Â
Conversely, the Webber offense is 14
th in the Mid-South Conference in scoring (20), and 17
th in total offense per game (273.8). However, quarterback Garry Chouloute is 11
th in the Mid-South in total offense per game at 186.7 yards per game.
Â
That group will face an SEU defense that ranks eighth in the Mid-South in scoring at 24.5. Twice this season, sophomore safety
James Swain has been named Sun Division Defensive Player of the Week. This includes last week, where he picked off two Faulkner passes, and had a team-high eight tackles.
Â
Southeastern will be looking to remain unbeaten all-time on Homecoming night. The Fire have saved some of their best defensive performances for the alumni, having posted back-to-back Homecoming shutouts.
Â
Gates open at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m. Following the game, there will be a fireworks show.
