Women’s Basketball Keeps Rolling

NORTH MIAMI, Fla.—The #18 Southeastern University Fire women's basketball team continued their string of dominant performances by beating the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats on the road, 92-54.

Due to combination play, great ball movement, and efficient passing, the Fire led 21-14 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Southeastern continued to get better looks at the basket than the Wildcats, which enabled SEU to do the majority of their damage throughout the second and third quarters. Senior guard Alyssa Ramos connected on two shots from behind the arc to extend the Fire advantage heading into halftime. During the last five minutes of the second quarter, Southeastern outscored the Wildcats 16-4 and took a 49-25 lead into the break.

This stretch allowed the Fire to shoot 61.8 percent from the field in the first half, compared to the Wildcats' mere 29.4 percent.

In the third quarter, the Fire added to their 24 point lead. The Wildcats didn't have an answer for the Fire's size in the paint, as Christin Strawbridge scored 14 points to go along with Sarah Green's game-high nine rebounds.

Southeastern extended their advantage to 40 points at the end of the third quarter, after going on a 25-9 run in the period.

Four Fire players ended the game in double figures. Ana Richter scored a season-high 21 points and added five rebounds and four assists, while Cassidy Block tallied 17 points, eight boards, and six helpers. Bailey Hooker, who made four of her eight 3-pt attempts, recorded 14 points.

Not only did the Fire impress with their scoring, but they also registered assists on an astounding 33 of their 38 buckets. Ramos led the team with seven assists in the game, while only turning the ball over once in the contest, improving her nation-leading turnover/assist ratio to 3.786.

The Fire will put their perfect season on the line once again as they return home to face conference opponent Ave Maria at 4pm on Saturday.
