LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire wrestling team lost a pair of Mid-South Conference duals to ranked opponents, and finished the day with a win.
Following a 23-13 loss to #17 Cumberland and a 28-13 loss to #16 Life, the Fire ended the day with a 30-21 win over Ouachita Baptist.
Tim Dinsdale and
Zach Colgan each finished the day 3-0 for Southeastern. Dinsdale scored a major decision over Peter Donchev of Cumberland, a 6-2 decision against Phillip McBride of Life, and a second period pin of Jonothan Woods of Ouachita Baptist. Colgan recorded a pair of pins and a decision.
Gio Bonilla finished the day 2-0 for the Fire with a 14-7 decision over Nate Croley of Cumberland and a technical fall against Ouachita Baptist.
Against Cumberland, the Fire held a 13-11 lead heading into the final three bouts of the dual, but lost two by decision, and had a forfeit.
Colgan's first period pin of Yakariel Judah of Life brought the Fire back within three (16-13), but again, the Fire were unable to come up with the necessary points in the three highest weight classes.
Three tech falls and two pins pushed the Fire to victory over Ouachita Baptist. The most thrilling match belonged to
Zech Rives at 184, scoring a takedown at the buzzer to come away with a 7-5 decision over Austin Weldon.
The Fire will head west next weekend to participate in the Missouri Valley Invitational.
