Fire Rout Eagles to Improve to 6-0

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Southeastern Fire women's soccer team improved to 6-0 on the season after a thunderous 5-0 win over the Trinity Baptist Eagles.  A 6-0 season start has not been duplicated by a Fire women's soccer team since 2009.

Southeastern began their relentless attack early in the first half.  Just six minutes into the game Shayna Cole put the ball into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.  The ball was sent into the middle of the box where it was deflected by Heidi Ruth to the feet of Cole, who delivered the final touch into the back of the net.

The Eagles had their first chance of the match at the at the 25 minute mark.  Michelle Mendez broke free and put a quality shot on the net, however, Sydni Brookhouser was there to make the save for the Fire.

Shortly after, Southeastern struck twice in seven minutes.  In the 26th minute, Ruth collected the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, turned, and fired a shot that glanced off of the post and into the bottom right corner of the net.  In close succession, Becky Reynolds gathered the ball at mid-field and found Alyssa Kaminski in stride with a beautiful touch pass over the top of the defense, where she eluded the keeper to notch the Fire's third goal of the match.  With this goal, Kaminski has now scored in every match of the season.

As the second half began the Fire were seeking to stay on the attack.  Just 10 minutes into the second half Bethany Gannon was racing into the box where she was aggressively fouled.  The result was a penalty kick.  Jai Sterling stepped up to take the shot.  She sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted the ball home to put the Fire up 4-0.

The Southeastern attack was still strong late in the second half. Rachel Wallace settled the ball at her feet, turned, and while falling down, put her laces through the ball and found the back of the net from 25-yards out for her first career goal.

The game against the Eagles provided an opportunity for players to gain valuable experience.

"Tonight was a total team effort." said coach Randy Belli.  "We got a lot of different players in the game and had a lot of different goal scorers."

The depth of the Fire roster, as seen tonight, will be essential as the team progresses through their season.

Southeastern will look to remain perfect on the year as they begin conference play against University South Carolina Beaufort on Thursday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m.
