Box Score

Mobile, Ala. - The Fire traveled to Alabama to take on the Mobile Rams in a contest that did not disappoint.  Southeastern lost by a score of 3-2 after an overtime goal struck by Rams' Jai Holland found the back of the net.

The Rams struck first in the 28th minute of the game off of a corner kick by Matthew McArthur that was headed in by Paul Ledsham.  Before the Fire were able to find the back of the net, the Rams notched another goal off the foot of Mohamed Conde after he knifed his way through the Southeastern defense and beat the keeper to the short side.  The Fire had multiple chances to score, one of which came off the foot of Jonathan Jimenez, who received a pass and drilled a rocket directly off the crossbar.

Throughout 86 minutes of play, the Fire remained shut out. Fire offense was kept quiet for the majority of the game, but late in the second half their energy was renewed.  In a 2 ½  minute timespan, Southeastern came alive and knotted up the match. Jack Van Der Luit cracked the scoreboard for the Fire.  Luke Marchesani's cross found Van Der Luit at the top of the box, who put the ball in the net to cut the deficit to one.  As time was running out, momentum shifted in favor of the Fire.  With only 1 minute and 30 seconds left on the clock, Tevin Gage found the equalizer for the Fire, assisted by Pedro Ivo Dias, and sending the game into overtime.

Going into overtime, the Fire's intensity was truly special to witness.  Unfortunately, in the second minute Holland weaved through the Fire defense and launched a shot that snuck into the far post.  Although Mobile finished on top, the Fire outshot the rams 19-15.  Southeastern demonstrated resilience by coming back and not giving up when down; sadly, however, this time it was not enough.

The matched proved to be an extremely physical one with the center referee dishing out a total of four yellow cards, three to Mobile and one to Southeastern's Jake Luff.

Southeastern looks to bounce back from this tough loss on Thursday, September 15th, when they take on Truett McConnell at home.
