Box Score WEST POINT, Ga.—The Point Skyhawks came out strong in their opening match against the defending Sun Conference Tournament Champions.
The hosts surprised the Fire by stealing the first set, but the guests came back to win the next three, securing their first win of the year.
Point (0-1) had a 19-14 lead during the first set, and held off a late charge from Southeastern, which came back to tie the set at 21. On the third set point, the hosts got a kill to come away with a 25-23 win.
The Fire (1-0) took the second set by the same 25-23 score, holding off a late run from Point.
Southeastern upped its attack in the final two sets, recording a .577 hitting percentage as a team in the third and 15 kills with a .412 hitting percentage in the fourth.
Kaitlin Boyd recorded a team-high 14 kills in her SEU debut, and was part of two blocks. Senior
Lydia Rooth recorded a double-double with 12 kills, 19 digs, and had an ace.
Uche Kojo (11) and
Kelsey Morton (10) were also in double figures in kills.
Lindsey Fleming paced the offense with 47 assists on a total of 56 kills by the Fire.
Alyssa Prescott had a team-best 20 digs, and
Kenzie Riegel chipped in 11.
The Fire move across the state line tomorrow to take part in the Faulkner Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama.
