Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – The Fire suffered their first Sun Conference Tourney loss this afternoon, falling to the No. 2 Webber Warriors 2-1.
Webber struck first in the top of the second. A two-out, bases-loaded shot to third was bobbled and a run scored as the result.
Two innings later, the Warriors had the Fire defense pinned in another bases loaded situation, this time with no outs. A force at home put the first out on the board, but two K's were preceded by a walk that scored the winning run.
The Fire's answer came in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice that scored
Sammy Jacobson from third, but it proved too-little, too-late. They left a total of six runners stranded all game despite recording just two hits.
Their biggest chance to get back in the game was in the same inning that they scored their run. Momentum was on their side with runners on second and third with two outs, but a 5-3 groundout put the inning in the books.
The Fire are set to play No. 3 USCB tomorrow at noon. The winner emerges out of the loser's bracket and must beat Webber twice for the title.
