SWING AND A MISS DINGER: Senior
Anna Martin hit .615 last week with eight hits in 13 appearances; three of them were home runs. The first was a solo bomb to extend the Fire's cushion to two in game one with Thomas. Her second of the day was good for three runs in game two to give the Fire a 5-2 lead in the fifth. The Tallahassee native ended the week with another three-runner to put the Fire up 9-5 in the game two win over Warner on Saturday.
500 AND COUNTING…: With a sweep of Warner on Saturday, Head Coach
Anna Welsh notched her 500
th career win. Coach Welsh built the Southeastern Softball program from the ground up and led the team to 27 wins in its 2013 inaugural season. The records only improved from there and, to date, she's notched 135 wins as the Fire's fearless leader.
BEWARE OF BLAHA: Injury kept junior transfer
Cheyenne Blaha off the field for the majority of the season until Saturday. In game one she was 0-for-1 with two walks and a strikeout, but she was just getting hacks and sharpening her judgement for round two. As the seven hitter, Blaha led off the bottom of the third with a solo dinger to left on a full count. Her trot was reserved and humble, but it silently screamed "I'm back!"
LAST TIME THEY MET: Southeastern beat Keiser (then named Northwood) 9-1 last season before game two of the doubleheader in West Palm Beach was called for rain. The Fire outhit the Seahawks 13-4 with a 3-for-3, four-RBI effort belonging to
Cat Maldonado. The win moved the Fire to 12-1 in the TSC.
THE SEAHAWKS: Keiser got off to a slow start in league play losing four consecutive TSC games before most recently taking down Webber 2-1 and St. Thomas 4-3. Senior utility player Shanah Thomas leads the Seahawks starters with a .464 batting average. Heather Shapiro is second with a .367 but has a team leading 30 RBI's.
