Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla. – After being on the road for eight games last week, Southeastern softball made an exciting homecoming, sweeping the Peregrines of Purdue Calumet 4-1 then 4-3 this afternoon.
Game two was the nail-biter of the day, but
Anna Martin sealed the sweep with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
A single by leadoff hitter
Sydnie Malloy put the winning run on first then a passed ball put her in scoring position.
Taylor Stoltz did a job in the number two slot with a sacrifice bunt to put Malloy on third with one out.
Up next was
Cat Maldonado. Her 2-for-3 effort with a double and an RBI was deemed too threatening by the Peregrines so, in four pitches, she was on first with Martin at the plate. The senior powerhouse slammed a single to right on an 0-1 count for the win.
Purdue Calumet went up 3-0 in the top of the fourth on three hits then the Fire worked back for two in the bottom of the fifth. Stoltz and Maldonado both had RBI singles in the inning.
The Fire tied the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth on an
Annie Weaver double to deep right-center.
Malloy was also 2-for-3 in game two and the Fire outhit the Peregrines 9-4.
Maldonado moved to 3-2 in the circle pitching all seven and striking out seven of 24 batters.
In game one, the Fire had a 1-0 advantage after two innings. With two outs, Weaver singled to left to score
Brandee Pietrzak who doubled to reach base.
Purdue Calumet knotted it in the top of the fifth, but the Fire answered in the bottom with a two RBI single by Martin that made it 3-1.
A first and third double steal crossed Weaver in the bottom of the sixth for the final run of the game.
Martin had a day going 3-for-3 in game one with two RBI's. Weaver was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and, collectively, the Fire outhit the Peregrines 11-3.
Lindsie Scholwinski powered through seven innings allowing just three hits and striking out seven of 23.
Southeastern is back at it again tomorrow against Tennessee Wesleyan College. The home doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
