Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. – On the final day of the Gulf Shores Invitational, Southeastern softball earned its second win of the weekend 6-1 over Brenau University then fell to #23 Lindenwood-Belleville University 11-3 before heading home.
The Fire scored a single run in each of the first, second and fourth innings then crossed three in the seventh for six total runs.
Cat Maldonado homered with two outs and nobody on in the first then in the top of the second,
Annie Weaver's single scored
Brandee Pietrzak who doubled to lead off the inning.
Pietrzak was first at the dish again in the fourth when she sent a solo homerun over the fence for run three. Three runs on four hits in the seventh displayed the final score with RBI's belonging to
Anna Martin,
Natalie Hughes and Pietrzak.
Brenau scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
Lindsie Scholwinski earned her third win of the week allowing four hits and striking out six. The Fire racked up 12 hits fueled by Pietrzak who was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI's.
Lindenwood took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first on four hits and a Fire error.
After four and a half the Fire were at a 7-0 disadvantage but cut the deficit to four in the bottom of the fifth with three runs on four hits.
A run in the sixth and three in the seventh gave Lindenwood the final eight run margin.
The Fire were outhit 13-6 and Maldonado suffered the loss in the circle giving up seven runs on nine hits and striking out three.
Up next, Southeastern kicks off a week at home with a double header against Purdue Calumet on Wednesday at 2 and 4 p.m.
