LAKELAND, Fla.—In its only two games of the week, the Fire baseball team totaled 36 runs to come away with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana University South Bend, winning 19-0 and 17-1.
An eight-run second inning put the Fire up early in the first game against the Titans, taking a 10-0 lead after two. SEU sent 13 to the plate that inning and recorded seven hits.
The Fire pitching staff didn't need any more help than that as
Jordan Gard,
Ryder Albright,
Dylan Jameson, and David West allowed four total hits, four walks, and struck out seven batters. Gard started the game and threw three no-hit innings.
Ryder Albright earned his second win of the season, working two innings, allowing three hits and striking out one.
Third baseman
Aaron Sheaks was the team leader in hits, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored.
As a team, the Fire hit five doubles in the first contest.
Southeastern scored 17 runs on 13 hits as the Fire drew 10 walks in the nightcap.
Angel Garced was the offensive catalyst, going 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs. Catcher
Mike D'Acunti added a 2-for-4 effort with a double, a triple and five RBIs.
Fire pitchers scattered eight hits and struck out eight batters, led by starter
Nate Harmon's six K's.
Cole Yoder earned the win, allowing one hit in his inning of work.
After taking the weekend off, the Fire will host Ave Maria next Thursday to kick off a Sun Conference series.
