Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern softball scored wins three and four of the week with a sweep of the Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs this afternoon. Game one ended 7-1 then the Fire came from behind to take game two 4-3.
The Fire led game one 3-2 after two full innings.
Natalie Hughes singled to left for an RBI in the bottom of the first. The bottom of the second was home to two more with a
Sydnie Malloy RBI single and run scored on a Bulldogs error.
The Bulldogs scored their lone run in the top of the second.
A four run bottom three gave the Fire their final six run advantage that stuck through three and a half additional innings.
Hughes and
Brandee Pietrzak kicked off the half inning with back-to-back singles then an error on an
Annie Weaver bunt crossed Hughes to make it first and third for Alex Millett. She smashed a double to the right-center gap for two RBI's, advanced to third on a bunt single by
Bri Girardin, then scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Taylor Stoltz.
Millett was 2-for-4 in game one as was fellow freshman Hughes. Combined, they accounted for five of seven runs with two runs scored and three RBI's.
The Fire recorded 14 hits with three apiece belonging to Stoltz and Malloy.
Lindsie Scholwinski secured her 10
th win in the circle throwing five innings and giving up two hits while striking out seven.
Emily Bryant tossed the final two and gave up a single hit.
In game two, the Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first on three hits and a Fire error.
Southeastern got one back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout by
Cat Maldonado, but remained in the two run deficit until their offensive half of the fourth.
With runners on first and second and one out, Weaver singled to center for the first RBI of the inning. Millett was next at the dish. A single knotted it at three then Weaver scored on the throw to put the final run on the board.
The Fire's seven hits of game two were scattered between seven different hitters.
Maldonado secured the win on the mound powering through all seven and giving up no earned runs on six hits and striking out three.
The Fire will take a break from games tomorrow then will hit the diamond again on Saturday for a double header against Northwestern College. Game one is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the SEU softball field.
