LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern softball tallied four wins last week highlighted by a 1-0 shutout of #15 Davenport University in Saturday's finale. They downed NCAA Division II Chestnut Hill twice on Friday afternoon, 8-0 then 10-2, both in five innings, then beat Grace College 4-1 in game one on Saturday.
It was
Anna Martin who had the winning RBI against Davenport. In the top of the fourth with one on and two outs she sent a double to deep left for the RBI the Fire's second of two hits in seven innings.
Lindsie Scholwinski pitched a five hitter and struck out three in the same game.
In two games against Chestnut Hill the Fire outhit the Griffins 21-5.
Cat Maldonado was 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles a home run and eight RBI's. Martin matched that 3-for-4 effort with a home run and two RBI's in two games. Scholwinski earned the win from the mound in game one giving up three hits and striking out nine while
Emily Bryant took game two. She gave up two hits, no earned runs and struck out two batters in three and two thirds innings.
On Saturday, the Fire were knotted at one with Grace after one inning and scored three in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Sydnie Malloy was 3-for-3 at the plate and the remaining seven Fire hits belonged to seven different batters. Martin's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth counted for the winning run. Maldonado pitched four and two thirds giving up five hits and an earned run, then Scholwinski came in relief for the win, striking out four of seven hitters and allowing a single hit.
Southeastern is back in action tomorrow at the National Training Center, then they take off to Gulf Shores Alabama later in the week for their spring trip and the Gulf Coast Invitational.
