Fire Prepare for Two Road Challenges

LAKELAND, Fla. – Fire women's basketball secured Sun Conference wins 10 and 11 last week with wins over Ave Maria, 59-51, and Florida Memorial, 83-56. Their 11-2 TSC record is good for first in the league with three games to play in the regular season.

Southeastern led by as much as 14 against Ave Maria, but the Gyrenes narrowed it to one on a 13-2 run that made it 50-49 with 4:24 to play. The Fire held on, however, and tallied their tenth conference win by eight points. Ali Sanders led all scorers with 15 while pulling down seven rebounds and recording two steals and an assist. Christin Strawbridge followed with 13 points and 11 boards, good for her 13th double-double of the season. She currently leads The Sun Conference in double-doubles.

The Fire scored the first nine points of the game against Florida Memorial and never looked back, securing their 20th win of the season by 27 points. This time it was Alyssa Ramos that led. Her 16 points were comprised of five 3-pointers and a free throw with a 5-for-11 effort from long range. Bailey Hooker trailed close behind with 15 points and was an impressive 6-for-10 from the field.

The first ranked Fire will take on two top-five Sun Conference teams this week. The Thomas Night Hawks are currently fifth at 6-6 and will host the Fire on Wednesday. The Warriors of Webber International are in second place at 10-2 and currently boast a five game win streak.
