JACKSON, Miss.—Southeastern scored 27 runs during its first day of baseball against Tougaloo College, sweeping the doubleheader 16-2 and 11-4.
The Fire picked up its fifth and sixth straight wins.
Cole Yoder spun a complete game gem in the first game, allowing just one earned run, scattering seven hits. The Auburndale native struck out four, coaxed nine groundouts, and walked just one.
The Fire offense scored 16 runs on 16 hits, which included six doubles and a home run by
Mike D'Acunti in the top of the fourth inning. He finished the first game 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
Junior
Chris Mattison was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, and drove in a run.
The Fire were aggressive on the base paths in Game 2, totaling 12 stolen bases on 12 attempts.
Sean Anderson and
Marcus Guzman had three each.
D'Acunti was again the catalyst, going 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, and three more RBIs. Mattison added another double in a 2-for-3 effort with three RBIs.
Mike Ruppenthal earned his first win of the season, allowing three earned over five innings of work with six strikeouts against two walks.
Josh Egert allowed one hit over the final two innings, inducing four groundouts.
The two teams will meet tomorrow for another doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Central.
