Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla. – Southeastern men's basketball snapped a four-game losing streak this evening with a whopping 82-57 victory over the Ave Maria Gyrenes. With the win, they move to 15-10 overall and 5-7 in The Sun Conference.
The Fire scored 12 straight points to kick things off bookended by 3-pointers from
Matt Crowe and
Larry Taylor. Ave Maria finally connected at the 15:42 mark after four turnovers put them in a double digit hole.
The Gyrenes worked back to as close as six in the first half, but a 15-5 Fire run in the final seven minutes sealed it at 36-21 in favor of Southeastern.
The Fire worked through the second half to double that 15 point margin. Their largest lead was by 30 points, 82-52, after
Linwood Ross connected from long range with a minute and a half of basketball remaining. The final five points of the night belonged to the Gyrenes.
Taylor led the Fire with 17 points including a 4-for-6 performance from beyond the arc. Eleven points belonged to
Isaac Barsh while
Elijah Ray contributed 10.
Collectively the Fire were an impressive 52% from the field, 50% from long range, and outrebounded the Gyrenes 36-27.
The Fire are back in action on Saturday against Florida Memorial. They will travel to North Miami to take on the Lions at Johnson & Wales' Wildcat Center at 4 p.m.
