LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern men's basketball season came to a close with an 83-60 loss to Keiser on Senior Day.
The loss ends the chances of a trip to the conference tournament.
The eighth-ranked and regular season conference champion Seahawks (27-3, 14-2 TSC) used a 42-26 second half advantage to run away and hide from the Fire (15-14, 5-11 TSC). The guests connected on 60% of their field goals, and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the second 20 minutes.
Southeastern got within four points with 11:25 remaining, trailing 54-50, but the Seahawks rattled off 11 straight points over the next 3:09 to take a 15-point lead, taking advantage of three SEU turnovers during that span.
"I was pleased with the way guys played," said coach
R-Jay Barsh. "Our seniors stepped up and made some plays. I was proud that they played hard the entire game."
Keiser led 41-34 at the end of the first half, due largely to its 3-point shooting, connecting on 6-of-12 from long range in the first half.
Southeastern trailed by as many as 16 in the first half, but whittled away at the deficit thanks to a couple of 3-pointers by
Caleb Konieczny and
Linwood Ross with 7:44 left in the half.
Konieczny and Ross each scored 11 points, and
Deshawn Wilcox added 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists off the bench.
The Fire did not have a player with more than six rebounds. Keiser had two with 10.
"I think going in, anybody who knew our situation knew we had an uphill battle, but we kept it interesting," said Barsh.
