Softball Heads to Plant City for Four

LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern softball began their season 1-1 on Saturday are now preparing for this coming weekend when they will play four games in Plant City at the springbreaksoftball.com NAIA Weekend.

Calumet took the Fire's season opener on Saturday 2-1. Down 2-0 on two solo shots in the second and the sixth innings, Southeastern scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh with no outs. Three batters later, there were bases loaded with one out, but a controversial call at first ended game one.

Cat Maldonado responded with her own solo bomb in the first inning of game two to give the Fire their first lead of the day, then five runs on three hits and two errors made it 6-0 after two. The reigning conference player of the year homered again in the fourth, this time for two runs, then a three up three down top five sealed the deal.

Maldonado was 3-for-6 on the day while Annie Weaver was 2-for-4 with a triple in game one. Seven different Fire batters were responsible for 13 hits in two games.

Lindsie Scholwinski suffered the loss in game one, while Emily Bryant took game two, giving up two hits and striking out two in four innings.
