Fire Collect First Win in “The Show”

Box Score

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - In the first of two games on the Tennessee road trip, the Fire took on the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears.  The Fire thwarted a Golden Bear offense that previously averaged 103 points per contest.  Southeastern captured the 76-66 win over West Virginia Tech to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The scoring catalyst for Southeastern came in the form of Josue Celestin.  The senior forward Fort Myers, Fla. native was 10-11 from the floor and finished with a career high 25 points. Celestin was extremely instrumental in creating second chance opportunities for the Fire this afternoon.  Of Celestin's seven rebounds, four were on the offensive end.

Early on, the Fire relied on the hot hand of Harrison Hebert, who was lights out from behind the arc.  Hebert finished with 15 points, all of which came from beyond the three-point line.

Southeastern's largest lead of the game came when they led by 16 in the first half.  As a whole, the Fire shot 52 percent from the floor and played quality defense to keep the Golden Bears at bay.  West Virginia Tech, however, dominated the glass, out rebounding the Fire 42 to 33.

The Golden Bears were led by Michael Scott and Ryan Atkins.  Scott recorded a double-double;  21 points and 12 rebounds.  Atkins finished with 21 points also, but Scott and Atkins' valiant efforts were not enough to top the Fire.

The Fire will play their second game of "The Show" tomorrow, November 27th, at 11 a.m. against #23 Rochester University.
