KINGSPORT, Tenn.—The Fire women's basketball team will be joining the men's team in Tennessee as "The Show" NAIA Division II Showcase has expanded this year, adding a women's tournament.
It will be a great opportunity for the Fire to play two games in front of a national audience at the NAIA level.
The Fire will take on Union Saturday afternoon, and will see Tennessee Wesleyan on Sunday.
Like Southeastern, Union enters The Show unbeaten, sitting at 7-0. The Bulldogs have averaged 80.1 points in their seven wins, and have the nation's top shooter on the roster in Maci Spence. The senior averages 20.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, knocking down 67% of her shots.
Both teams will have the chance to improve their Top 25 rankings, or in the case of Union, appear on the list or ranked or receiving votes teams.
The Fire are familiar with their Sunday opponent, having faced Tennessee Wesleyan in the first round of the national tournament in 2015, falling 62-45.
TWU has won three of its last four, and is 4-3 overall. The Bulldogs have had some success with their outside shooting, connecting on 38.5% from beyond the arc, and ranking 11
th in NAIA Division II. Madison Walkup is third in the nation with 31 successful 3-pointers.
