Fire Rout Warriors

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. -  The Fire beat the Webber International University Warriors by a score of 5-0 and in doing so increased their winning streak to three.  Southeastern applied constant pressure on Webber throughout the competition, never letting up until the final whistle blew.

Not wasting any time getting on the board, the Fire struck first in the 14th minute of the contest.  Gerritson Craane delivered a remarkable cross into the box where waiting Jake Van Der Luit dove and headed the ball into the net, marking Van Der Luit's sixth goal of the season.

Just six and one-half minutes later, Van Der Luit found himself on the scoresheet once again.  This time Kendall Crouse launched a long pass down the far right side of the field to the feet of Van Der Luit, who put the final touch on the ball, positioning Southeastern up by two early in the game.

Moments later, in the 27th minute of the competition, the Fire struck again.  Corey Mills, the transfer from Florida Southern, fed a pass to Jonathan Jimenez, who delivered a rocket past Webber goalkeeper Randy Chesson that found the back of the net.

The unrelenting Fire attack allowed Gerritson Craane to set up another goal.  Craane footed the ball to Tauan Salgado, who spun in the box and delivered a remarkable back heel shot into the netting.  Prior to Webber attempting a shot on goal, the Fire scored three times.  In the first half of the contest, Southeastern outshot Webber 9-3.

When the second half commenced, the Fire picked up right where they left off.  After a nifty pass by Jonathan Jimenez in the 74th minute of the game, Tevin Gage put his laces through the ball and netted his second goal of the season.

Due to the sun blazing down on the pitch, both teams continually rotated players in and out of the game.

Although Webber created a couple of opportunities in front of the net, they could not gain any real traction against Southeastern.  Tim Stanford launched two shots for the Warriors, both of which were denied by Fire netminders.

The Fire will be back in action at home on Monday, October 24th, where they will compete against Savannah College of Art and Design in a make-up game.
