Fire Receive Full Team Effort in Win over Royals

Strong Start for Men's Soccer Surges Team Past the Royals

Lake Wales, Fla. – The Southeastern men's soccer team earned its second consecutive win and shutout as the Fire defeated the Warner University Royals 6-0 on the road.

After a scoreless 16 minutes to open up the match, in which the Fire rattled off six shots, SEU finally found the back of the net on a score by sophomore forward Jake Van Der Luit. The goal was Van Der Luit's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Fire did not wait long to add to its lead, as sophomore Jonathan Jimenez netted a goal off a deflection in the 19th minute. Ten minutes later, Jimenez kicked one through again to give SEU a 3-0 lead. This was his second multi-goal game since 9/05/15 versus Florida National.

SEU was not finished with its first half scoring yet, as redshirt senior midfielder Tyler Gay netted his first goal of the season in his first game back from injury. The score came in the 36th minute and was assisted by junior defender Jake Luff.

The Fire took a 4-0 lead into the half over the Royals. The four goals scored were the most scored by Southeastern in a first half since 10/24/09 when SEU scored six first half goals versus Piedmont Baptist College.

"We had a great start from our players. Everyone played in the game. It took a full team effort tonight," shared Head Coach Clay Roberts.

Southeastern continued that team effort in the second half, as a couple of players scored their first goals of the season. Junior forward Ikenna Abika kicked on through in the 53rd minute off the assist from freshman midfielder Nik Meche. In the 77th minute, freshman forward Mark Lowry scored after Tyler Gay fed him a solid pass from the outside.

The Fire outshot the Royals 22-3. With the win, the Fire improved to 5-7 on the season and have now won two straight in Sun Conference action.

SEU will look to continue its momentum in conference play as it hosts Webber International University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
