Fire Go 1-3 at Coker Duals

Fire Wrestling went 1-3 after a long day in South Carolina at the Coker Duals, hosted by the Coker College Cobras. Southeastern gave up eight falls on the day, as well as eight forfeits in the dual meet tournament.
 
The Tournament was a showcase of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA schools from all around the Southeastern United States.  A total of 11 teams would wrestle at the tournament, however, Southeastern would only face four. The Fire faced Greensboro, a Division III program also in its first year, as well as three Division II teams: Coker, UNC-Pembroke, and Belmont Abbey.
 
The Fire got their only win of the day against Greensboro, their first meet of the day.  Southeastern wrestlers Ryan Strickland (149) and Zech Rives (174) had the only two Southeastern falls in the match, Rives scoring his with 17 seconds left in the first period. Greensboro also forfeited at 133 pounds, which would lead to a 36-12 win for Southeastern. 
 
Southeastern struggled against the host Cobras in the second round of the tournament, losing that match 39-7.  The only points Southeastern scored were by Ethan Owen's (133) major decision victory, as well as Aaron Wiechel's decision.  Ethan won his match 11-3, scoring four takedowns and two escapes, as well as riding time points. Wiechel's 9-3 win came with two escapes, two takedowns, and two points awarded for the opponents stalling, with riding time as well.
 
Three Southeastern wresters won their individual efforts in their third meet against UNC Pembroke, which was ultimately a loss, with the score 34-15.  Wrestlers Olson Delisca (125) and Owen (133) got the Fire off to a hot start, winning the first two matches by decision and fall, respectfully.  Timmy Dinsdale (157) was the other fire wrestler to get six points on the board for his fall, with his pin late in the third period.
 
The fourth meet of the day against Belmont Abbey was their third loss of the day, losing 34-9.   Southeastern's only points came from decision victories from Owen (133), Weichel (141), and Aris Knight (184).   Owen's win came in overtime on a takedown with 13 seconds left in the period, ultimately winning 11-9.
 
Southeastern will return to South Carolina in two weeks for some additional dual meets, against Newberry College and Spartanburg Methodist College.
