LAKELAND, FLA.-- The winning streak has risen to five games in a row for the Southeastern University women's basketball team. In a low-scoring affair, the Fire came away victorious against the Viterbo University V-Hawks by a score of 54-29.
It took two minutes and 12 seconds for a basket to drop, as a 3-ball by
Alyssa Ramos got the offense going. The first period was sluggish by both squads; by the end of the period, the score was only 9-8 in favor of the Fire (10-3).
The second period wasn't what the V-Hawks (2-13) had in mind. Although the Fire shot 63% on 5-8 shooting, the V-Hawks shot a dismal 8% on 1-12 shooting. Viterbo only managed to score three points for the entire period as Southeastern took a 22-11 lead into the half.
The Fire shot well in the third and fourth periods of the game. Although the field goal attempts were minimal, the offense remained efficient. Southeastern shot 6-12 in the third period and 6-15 in the final period as they coasted to a 25 point win.
Christin Strawbridge led the scoring attack with 14 points and four rebounds.
Ali Sanders scored 10 on 4-7 shooting to go along with seven rebounds.
Bailey Hooker had a solid showing, scoring eight points while collecting five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Carlie Newman led with eight rebounds as well.
The Fire are back in action Wednesday night as they host rival Warner University in a crucial Sun Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in The Furnace.
