Comeback Bid Falls Short For Women's Basketball

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.-- Winning streaks have to come to an end eventually.  The 11-game winning streak for the Southeastern women's basketball squad came to an abrupt end Tuesday night against the Keiser University Seahawks by a score of 56-51.

With the loss, Southeastern falls to 16-4 and 7-2 in conference play.  The win was a big one for Keiser, as they are now 12-10 and 5-4 in conference.

The Fire put themselves in a huge hole early, thanks in part to shooting 5-23 in the first two periods.  The deficit was 25 for the Fire going into the locker room, and rose to 27 early in the third period before the Fire started chipping away.

Southeastern went on a 18-4 run that ranged the entire third period and three minutes into the fourth.  The threes weren't falling for the Fire for the whole game, but they started to find the basket as Bailey Hooker and Alyssa Ramos each sank a pair of 3-balls to help the team even the score at 50.

The Fire briefly led for a minute after a Carlie Newman free throw.  Unfortunately, four straight turnovers for Southeastern proved to be the nail in the coffin as the Seahawks sank their free throws and a pair of clutch threes.

Ramos led the scoring attack with 15 points, three rebounds, and a pair of assists.  Hooker finished with 12 points and six rebounds.  Christin Strawbridge was held to seven points but was able to bring down eight boards.

After a day to regroup, Southeastern will head to Lake Wales to take on Warner Thursday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the evening.
