Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.—It was a long, frustrating night for the Southeastern University women's soccer team tonight, as they were handed their first loss of the season by NCAA DII foe Eckerd College by a score of 3-0.
The Fire (2-1) couldn't keep the ball off their half of the field in the first half, as the Tritons (1-0-1) outshot the Fire 14-4. Eckerd finished with 22 shots and Southeastern finished with 10.
"It's an exciting opportunity to experience what the DII level is like for our team, especially a few games into the season; that'll help us prepare for conference play," commented coach Renee Lopez. "We had 10 shots on goal--we couldn't put one in the back of the net, but that's how soccer is sometimes. We showed what type of grit our team has."
A goal by Leah Chisholm at the 43' mark was the only goal scored in the first half.
Alice Wader and Shannon Estes-Larkin added goals of their own at the 54' and 82' marks, respectively.
Southeastern is back in action next Thursday as they host NCAA DIII opponent Oglethorpe College. Game time is set for 6pm at the SEU soccer field.
