Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire notched their third win of the season this afternoon over the Conquistadors of Florida National University, 4-1.
Freshman
Jonathan Jimenez came off the bench in the 70
th minute for his first appearance of the day, then a minute later shattered the 1-1 draw with a header from a
Jake Van Der Luit service.
Jimenez was also responsible for the two point cushion as he finished a cross from
Nick Wilson in the 73
rd minute to put the Fire up 3-1.
"Jonathan really stepped us for us with two big goals and I couldn't be more thrilled for him," said Coach
Clay Roberts.
Corey Mills finalized the score in the 85
th minute after finishing a
Camilo Mejia shot that ricocheted off of the keeper.
The Conquistadors kicked off the scoring in the 21
st minute but
Nick Wilson found the net for his second goal of the season just three minutes later to knot it at one.
"I'm really proud of our team in the way that we composed ourselves in the second half," said Roberts. "If we continue to improve on our tactics and stick to the game plan, we will only continue to get better."
The Fire will continue their season on Tuesday as they hit the road to Daytona Beach, Florida to take on Embry-Riddle. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
