LAKELAND, FLA.— Through their first seven games, the Southeastern University women's soccer team stands at 6-1 with a pair of important Sun Conference games on their slate for this week. Most recently, the Fire went 2-0 on their road trip, recording wins over University of South Carolina Beaufort and Johnson & Wales University Charlotte.
Against USCB, the Fire scored the first four goals of the game before the Sand Sharks had any answer of their own. Alyssa Kaminski scored her second and third goals of the season, Karly Palmar scored her second, and Heidi Ruth netted her first.
The Fire were schedule to play against Columbia International University the next day, but the contest was cancelled due to poor weather.
After the rainout, the Fire travelled up to Pineville, North Carolina to take on Johnson & Wales University Charlotte. It was no contest, as the Fire shut out the Wildcats 7-0. Kaminski, Palmar, Ruth, Sydni Brookhouser, Samantha Pifer, and Bre Eldridge all recorded a goal each. One of the goals was an own goal by the Wildcats. Kaitlyn Romero was credited with her second shutout of the season.
On the heels of a four game winning streak, the Fire now face a couple Sun Conference opponents. On Wednesday, Southeastern will host #4 Keiser University at 5 p.m. On Saturday at 5 p.m., they'll host the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats—not to be confused with their Charlotte branch.
The #4 Seahawks are currently 6-1-1 this year, most recently recording wins over Sun Conference rivals Johnson & Wales, Warner, and Webber International.
"Keiser looks to be a top team in our conference," said coach Renee Lopez. "We expect a tough battle against them; they have a top forward, Johanna Engberg, who makes a huge impact in their attack."
Through eight games, Engberg has scored 10 goals on 18 shots and has three assists.
The Fire will have a two day break before hosting Johnson & Wales. The Wildcats are 2-5 this year, most recently recording a 4-0 shutout win over Warner. Bailee Abrahamoff leads the team in goals scored so far with three.
Both games will be hosted on the SEU Soccer Field.
