Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—It took the Fire volleyball team just an hour and 12 minutes from its weekend to record the season's first Sun Conference win with a 3-0 win over Florida Memorial.
The Fire (8-4, 1-0 TSC) hit with precision in the first two sets, recording 12 kills and just two errors on 26 attacks in the first and 15 kills, two errors on 38 swings in the second.
Errors hurt the Lions (3-11, 0-2 TSC), recording 28 attack errors, three service errors, and two blocking errors. They finished with a -.077 attacking percentage compared to SEU's .323.
The Fire led the first set 18-9, then scored the final seven points of the set on three kills, an ace, and three attack errors.
In the second set,
Lindsey Fleming helped spur the Fire to a 12-0 run to take a 21-6 lead. She also had a pair of assists during the run on five SEU kills. A pair of FMU attack errors closed out the set, giving the Fire a 25-10 win.
The Lions stayed close during the first 20 rallies of the third set, trailing just 12-8. Southeastern exploded for a 13-4 run to close out the match, highlighted by a pair of kills each by
Victoria Trueheart and
Amy Schermerhorn.
Trueheart was the team's leading scorer with nine kills and no errors on 19 attacks; good for a .474 attacking percentage.
Kelsey Morton and Schermerhorn each added eight kills. The Fire also recorded 10 total blocks, with
Grace Wentworth leading the way with three.
Fleming finished the day with 24 assists on 38 total Fire kills.
Alyssa Prescott had a team-best eight digs to lead the back row.
The Fire return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Babson Park to take on Webber International at 7 p.m.
