Fire Shutout Gyrenes for Fourth Win of the Year

Box Score AVE MARIA, FLA.-- The Fire knew that they would come up with a goal if they kept pushing.  They got just that after a scoreless first half, as they grabbed a victory over rival Ave Maria, 2-0.  Katelyn Romero was credited with her third shutout of the season.

In the first half, the Fire (4-1) kept the ball on the Gyrenes (2-2) side of the field, as they outshot AMU 10-1 and shots on goal at 4-1.

Sam Pifer got the Fire on the board early in second half, registering her third goal of the season in the 57th minute.  Hunter Talley was credited with the assist.

Bre Eldridge put the nail in the coffin the 79th minute on an assist from Jai Sterling for her third goal of the year.

"It was a great win for us.  We didn't stick to our game plan in the first half but when we got back to our game plan in the second half we were able to put two balls away," said coach Renee Lopez.  "It was great to see the impact of our offensive threats today.  I also would like to commend our back line and Katelyn Romero in goal as they kept a fantastic shutout."

The Fire are back in action this Thursday, as they'll travel up to take on USC Beaufort.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
