Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire men's soccer team fell to NCAA DII opponent Rollins College, 5-2 this afternoon.
The Tars were the first to put one on the board, finding the back of the net in the 14
th minute.
Jake Van Der Luit responded in the 21
st minute with an assist from
Pedro Ivo Dias to knot it at one.
Ten minutes later, the Tars snagged the lead for good then added another less than two minutes later to make it 3-1 before half.
The Tars scored goals four and five in the 51
st minute, separated by just 33 seconds.
Fire freshman
Jacob Wendel made it 5-2 with his first goal on the season after a previous shot ricocheted off the keeper.
The Fire had plenty of opportunities through 90 minutes, firing 19 shots to the Tars' 20, 11 of which were on frame.
Keepers
Colby Turner and Jorge Navarette split time between the posts and each recorded four saves.
"I felt that we were in a place to finish a few more opportunities and make this game a little tighter," said Coach Roberts. "Discipline outlasts talent so we have to become more disciplined. I'm happy with the progression and we'll just keep pressing for that first big win."
A quick turnaround puts the Fire back on the pitch Tuesday against Trinity Baptist College. The Fire bested the Eagles 7-1 for their first win of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Lakeland.
