Box Score LAKELAND, FLA.— It wasn't as easy as the score suggested. Although the Southeastern women's volleyball team swept the Florida National Conquistadors (25-12, 25-13, 25-17), the team left room for improvement.
The attacking percentage for the Fire (6-3), in order, was .333, .036, and .097. Fortunately, the Conquistadors (2-16) couldn't muster any offense of their own, as they attacked .040, -.240, and -.097.
SEU jumped out to a 13-5 lead before the fans had time to find their seats. Uche Kojo recorded four of her eight kills in the first set, as the Fire breezed to an easy first set win.
In the second set, it looked to be more of the same in the beginning as the Fire roared to a 6-1 lead. However, seven Fire attacking errors and a service error let the Conquistadors back in it, as they tied it up at 13 apiece. In the midst of a dry spell, the Fire responded as good teams do and proceeded to go on a 12-0 run to put the second set away with authority.
Florida National put up a valiant effort in the third set in an effort to claw their way back into the game. They went toe to toe with the Fire and had the game tied at 15-15 at one point. After that, the Fire pulled away by going on a 10-2 run thanks in part to three kills by
Kelsey Morton.
Kojo finished with eight kills and four blocks. Morton finished with five kills and three blocks.
Ashley Lanoue and
Victoria Trueheart recorded five kills and two blocks each.
Lindsey Fleming logged 22 assists, an ace, and a kill.
The Fire are back in action Friday evening, as they host Trinity Baptist College. Game time set to start at 7 p.m. in the Furnace.
