Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—After a week without a game, the Fire volleyball team needed a few rallies to get back into game action.
The Fire trailed Trinity College 5-1 in the first set, but rallied to win 25-21, then finished off the Tigers with 25-10 and 25-9 victories for a 3-0 win.
Southeastern (5-3) recorded just nine kills and had nine attack errors in the first set, but received the benefit of 11 Trinity attack errors. In the second set, the Fire jumped out to a 5-0 lead, thanks to a pair of kills by
Kelsey Morton, and a kill from
Victoria Trueheart, along with a pair of Trinity (3-7) errors.
The second set was closed with a 12-1 run, three points coming on service aces by Trueheart. The offense also upped its hitting, totaling 16 kills on 35 swings with just three errors.
In the third set, the Fire led 10-2 with freshman
Kenzie Riegel serving a pair of aces. The hitting again picked up, with the Fire recording a .500 hitting percentage in the third set, and also was able to sideout the Tigers on eight of nine opportunities.
Morton led the offense with 10 kills and a .444 attacking percentage. Trueheart finished the night with eight kills.
Lindsey Fleming recorded seven kills on 13 attacks, had 24 assists, and had six digs.
Alyssa Prescott led the back row with a game-high 15 digs.
The Fire were also quite active at the net, recording 10 total blocks. Uche Kojo had a team best six blocks.
Southeastern returns to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Florida National.
