Box Score In the first half, the Fire (2-0) held the Falcons (1-2) without a single shot. Ball possession was completely one-sided, as SEU registered 13 shots, with two of them going in the net. In the 17th minute, Eldridge got the scoring spree started with a nicely placed ball in the right corner for her second goal of the season.
"It was a great opportunity for us to show off our offensive threats and it was also a great game for us to be able to get a lot of player's in and playing time for our younger players," commented head coach Renee Lopez. The Fire showed off some nice passing for the second goal of the contest in the 30th minute, as Eldridge and Samantha Pifer exchanged touches to team up on the assist for Palmar's first goal of the season.
Pinpoint shooting was the theme for the second half for the Fire, as the team scored three goals in the second half. Tori Irvin, from 30 yards out on the left side, placed a ball that was just out of the goalie's reach and perfectly caromed off the right post into the back of the net for her first goal of the year. "She's a great left-footed player. She served a beautiful ball in with her left foot and got the back post; it was a beautiful finish," commented Lopez.
Hunter Talley also scored her first goal of the season. In the 68th minute, Talley took advantage of a loose ball from a previous corner kick and sent a laser into the net. Lastly, freshman Jamie Green scored a goal to remember in the 79th minute--her first collegiate goal. It was an impressive shot, as she placed the ball over the goalie's head from 25 yards away. The Fire are back in action Monday as they pay Eckerd College a visit. Game time is set for 7pm.
