Late Goal Dooms Fire against #13 Grizzlies

Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.—The Fire men's soccer team was in a great spot Sunday afternoon after 45 minutes of play against 13th ranked Georgia Gwinnett.

However, the 3-1 halftime advantage didn't hold up as the Grizzlies netted three second half goals for a 4-3 win over the Fire.

The Grizzlies drew first blood with a goal in the 11th minute by Matt Redgrave. Just over three minutes later, freshman Jake Van Der Luit scored the equalizer.

Christian Bores scored in the 38th minute, finishing a feed from Gerritson Craane to give the Fire a 2-1 advantage. Just 2:06 later, Pedro Ivo Dias tickled the twine to make it a two-goal game.

The hosts cut the deficit in half in the 78th minute, then tied the game with 7:22 to go.

With just 3:20 remaining in regulation, Redgrave found the back of the net to give the Grizzlies the advantage.

"I'm really proud of my team," said coach Clay Roberts. "We came into a tough game knowing that if we started well and executed the game plan, we would be in a position to win.

"We were there, but learned a valuable lesson on how important the disciplines and the details are at the end of the game," continued Roberts.

The Fire (2-1) registered seven shots, five of which were on frame. SEU keeper Jorge Navarette recorded five saves on nine GGC shots on goal.

Southeastern resumes play on Saturday at home against Florida National.
