Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—For a second night in a row, it's been a freshman that's stepped up to help the Fire volleyball team win.
Jordan Wheeler finished the match with 10 digs, four aces, and an assist to help SEU defeat Columbia College 3-0 and finish the Fire Invitational 2-0.
The Fire made quick work of the Koalas in the first set, claiming a 25-9 victory that saw the guests make six attacking errors and the Fire go a perfect 11-for-11 on sideout opportunities.
Wheeler served the first 13 points of the second set, during which, she recorded three of her aces. Five of those points came as the result of Columbia miscues. Two additional attack errors at the end of the set allowed the Fire to take a 25-14 win.
In the third set, the Koalas kept in much closer, getting a kill from Richelle Prijic to make it 23-22, but a pair of kills from
Kelsey Morton gave the Fire their second win in as many days.
Lindsey Fleming paced the offense with 25 assists, nine of those as a result of
Victoria Trueheart kills. Trueheart added nine digs, as did Fleming on the defensive end.
Amy Schermerhorn, Uche Kojo, and Morton all had five kills apiece.
After the match, Fleming and Trueheart were both named to the All-Tournament team.
The Fire continue their season on Friday when they head to Montgomery for the Faulkner Invitational.
