Women’s Soccer Dominates Season Opener

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Southeastern women's soccer team began its season this afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Bruins of Bob Jones University.
 
Sophomore Samantha Pifer scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 10th minute to give the Fire an early 1-0 lead. Hunter Talley assisted from the top of the box for a finish from 10 yards out.
 
The Fire went up 2-0 on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Bre Eldridge in the 24th minute. She carried the ball into the left half of the box and found the back of the net in the bottom right corner.
 
The two goal buffer held through the remainder of the half before Sydni Brookhouser put the Fire's third and final goal on the board in the 74th minute with an assist from Pifer.
 
Bruin sophomore Miriam Lozano scored BJU's lone goal in the 88th minute on a penalty kick.
 
The Fire dominated the match with 15 shots on goal to the Bruins' four.  
 
Sophomore keeper Jessica McClernan, recorded three saves in her first win of the season.
 
"We've been working really hard in preseason and I'm excited to see everything starting to take shape," said first year Fire head coach, Renee Lopez. "We had a few breakdowns on defense and they took advantage of so that's something we're going to work on before Tuesday night."
 
Southeastern will take the pitch next on Tuesday in Temple Terrace, Florida, home of the Florida College Falcons. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
